IABSM AAR: Imaginations - Clash at Kleindorf

James Mantos has been building forces for an “imaginations” campaign using I Ain’t Been Shot Mum to play out battles in the 1950’s.

His superb blog Rabbits in my Basement has all the details, and you can see a “parade ground” of his figures by clicking here.

James has also just fought his first battle in his imaginations campaign, a report on which can be seen on the blog or by clicking on the picture, below:

CDS Arab-Israeli AAR: Chariots of Fire

Steve Blease and fellow Lardy Phil got together to push some 6mm tanks around the table using the Arab-Israeli 6DW variation of Charlie Don't Surf.

Steve devised a basic scenario loosely based around the Battle of Dothan Valley on the West Bank at the start of the June/Six Day War of 1967. Click on the picture below to see all..

CDS AAR: Valley of Tears

We're not in Vietnam anymore...

Steve Blease ran through his 6mm Yom Kippur 'Valley of Tears' CDS variant game which he'll be running at the Winter Wonder Lard III Lardy Day in Bristol later this month. Here are a few shots of the action:

IABNM Reborn!

I knew there was a reason I spend so much time on keeping this site going!

One of Tim’s collection, taken from the IABNM Facebook Group

Fellow Lardy Tim Whitworth was browsing the other day, and came across the battle reports that I have taken from Nick Overland’s currently hibernating Maxim to Milan blog.

Nick wrote a variation of IABSM called I Ain’t Been Nuked Mum or IABNM for short which made some brief but very successful appearances at various Lardy days.

Inspired by what he read, Tim has set up a Facebook Group for IABNM, which you can get to by clicking here. It’s got the latest draft of the rules on there, and some lists, so hopefully we’ll see a few games taking place shortly.

It’s certainly inspired me to get all those boxes of Soviet armour out of the cupboard, the ones I bought in the last Battlefront sale…!

IABNM Moderns AAR: Counter-Attack

Over the years, various people have adapted the TooFatLardies' company-level rules I Ain't Been Shot, Mum (WW2) and Charlie Don't Surf (Vietnam) for other, more modern periods.

One such adaptation, never officially published, was I Ain’t Been Nuked Mum. Here’s a battle report from 2015 taken from the now unfortunately moribund Maxim to Milan blog imagining action from the Cold War of the 1970’s.

The scenario is an attack-defence scenario based on a West German counter-attack after Soviet forces had been halted by NATO resistance.

IABNM Moderns AAR: Breakthrough

Over the years, various people have adapted the TooFatLardies' company-level rules I Ain't Been Shot, Mum (WW2) and Charlie Don't Surf (Vietnam) for other, more modern periods.

One such adaptation, never officially published, was I Ain’t Been Nuked Mum. Here’s a battle report from 2015 taken from the now unfortunately moribund Maxim to Milan blog imagining action from the Cold War of the 1970’s.

The scenario sees a hastily assembled US force of a mechanised platoon, an anti-tank section and an armored cavalry section on a mission to stop a breakthrough by a Soviet company of T62s with a motor rifle platoon in BMPs attached.

IABNM AAR: OML3 Afternoon Game

I’ve finished another unit of Marian Romans (pictures after they are varnished) so am just wondering what to paint next.

Choices are to do another unit of Dutch horse for my ECW collection, start on the third unit of Marian Romans, search the lead mountain for inspiration, or start something new.

I know I have to resist starting something new (!) so opened the cupboard where I put everything that I want to paint but not just now…and there, at the front, was the new kit just bought from Battlefront during their lockdown sales from their Team Yankee range.

Tempting, but I really shouldn’t, so in the meantime I thought I’d give us all a bit of inspiration by resurrecting another battle report from Nick’s Maxim to Milan website charting the now moribund development of I Ain’t Been Nuked Mum: a version of IABSM for cold war Europe.

This was the afternoon game from the third Operation Market Larden Lardy Day in Evesham. Click on the pic below to see all:

Meanwhile I’m back doing what I should be doing: more Marian Romans!

IABSM AAR: Border Clash with Borduria

Here’s another battle report from James Manto’s excellent blog Rabbits in my Basement.

For this game, James has expanded his Medieval and 18th Century Imaginations concept to the post-WW2 period, with an epic clash across the fictional border between Mantovia (huzzah!) and Borduria (boo, hiss!) set in 1949.

IABNM AAR: Action at OML3

Must…resist…

I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to resist all the new Team Yankee Cold War kit from Battlefront. As I’m already in the middle of building up armies for a new period (English Civil War for those of you not paying attention. Yes, I mean you, Clarke, at the back!) I just can’t handle anything else at the moment.

All this Cold War goodness, however, got me thinking about what rules to use. Regular browsers will know that I play Arab/Israeli games with an adapted form of Charlie Don’t Surf!, but the early 70’s is just about as far as they will go without more work.

More thinki, and I remembered I Ain’t Been Nuked Mum! : a proper Cold Wars adaptation of IABSM that I remembered seeing at the third Operation Market Garden games day in Evesham.

A little bit of Googling and I found the Maxim to Milan blog, featuring some excellent IABNM battle reports. Sadly, the blog hasn’t been updated since 2015 but (and I hope Nick doesn’t mind) here’s one of them recreated here on VL. Those of you who’d prefer to see the original on MtM can click here to do so.

Arab Israeli AAR: Rumi El Bakhara

I hadn’t gamed with old friend Neil for at least 18 months, so it was a pleasure to get a date into the diary and push some lead around the table again.

We decided to have a battle set in the 1967 Six Day War between an Israeli and an Egyptian (UAR) force. The game would be a fictional encounter battle using the TooFatLardies Charlie Don’t Surf Vietnam rules adapted for the theatre and available elsewhere on this site.

Israeli Yom Kippur Lists Updated

Just a quick update to the Israeli lists really to bring them in line with the format/look of the Egyptian lists that I posted earlier this week.

What's changed? Well, the only real difference is that I've expanded the details on aircraft and anti-aircraft assets, and added a pictorial front cover. So worth downloading again.

Next up will be the Syrians.

CDS: Egyptian Lists for the 1973 Yom Kippur War

I've now had a chance to finish and post the second set of FOC army lists for a 1973 Yom Kippur War Charlie Don't Surf! expansion: the Egyptians.

This list covers all the various incarnation of infantry and mechanised infantry company, along with their supporting armour, air defence and artillery.

It also covers the possibilities of the initial assault across the canal, where the Egyptians were working to a well-practised fixed plan, and includes the slight variations for commandoes and paratroopers.

As always, let me know if you find any inaccuracies: admin@vislardica.com.

CDS: IDF Lists for the 1973 Yom Kippur War

The first of the briefings, covering the Israeli Defence Force, for using Charlie Don't Surf to fight the 1973 Yom Kippur War is now live on the Yom Kippur War homepage.

A tough list to put together, as the sources of information are often contradictory. I can't see why someone who knows can't just post somewhere on the Internet a proper, unadulterated TOE, unadapted for any game system, for an IDF infantry company (mechanised, paratrooper or motorised) in 1973. Someone must have one!

So, as is the usual TFL practice, what I have done is construct a list for an infantry company (mechanised or paratrooper), plus a list for a tank company, that I think is pretty representative of what was actually fielded at the time.

Happy to look at any other information that people have. Either comment here or e-mail me at the usual address (admin@vislardica.com)

Rock the Casbah AAR: Slow But Steady

A quick AAR from Anton Ryzbak's blog Anton's Wargame Blog. This report concerns an Israeli advance to clear a Palestinian held town, and uses the Rock the Casbah supplement for IABSM and TWAT.
