Fun outdoor WW2 Skirmish Game recreating the attack of Herman Goering Panzer Division on the 82nd Airborne and 1st US Infantry (Big Red One) on July 11, 1943 in Sicily.

Based upon Scenario #6 Piano Lupo 3 from the Sicilian Weekend IABSM Scenario book but using map and some unit suggestions from Belly of the Tiger scenario in Skirmish Elite, Combat Jump Sicily book.

Excellent turnout with both experienced and new players. Germans were commanded by Brett McLay, Steve Emerson and Jon Fry while Americans were commanded by Steve Smith, Dave Goodwin and Elroy Davis and yours truly as host.

Game played fairly true to history with American naval artillery as the key decisive stroke to break up the attack of the panzers along with some "great shooting, Tex" by the crews of the 57mm AT guns.

So many scenarios, so little time...

Great source of scenarios and easily adaptable to IABSM or CoC.

Map from Skirmish Elite book. Terrain made from drywall/sheetrock paste, spray paint and pebbles for the gully and the hill slopes.

1. The night before the battle. Americans occupy former Axis trenches.

2. Two Tiger, two Panzer 4s and two Panzer 3 lead the assault on the hill.

3. American naval artillery rattles the panzer crews causing shock (red chips) and loss of activations on next turns (orange chips).

5. Three American M3 GMC with 75mm guns emerge to challenge the halftracks and one is quickly dispatched by a panzer

4. Two panzergrenadier platoons emerge from the woods and cross the gully.

6. One Panzer IV is brewed up by a 57 mm AT while his companion takes shock from another AT gun.

8. The Panzer IV crew on the right abandons their tank as they suffer too many shock points due a 2nd barrage from the American naval artillery.

9. 82nd airborne man the trenches.

10. Big Red one infantry MG and rifle fire inflicted many casualties on the grenadiers when they got out of their halftracks.

11. German 120mm mortar round lands right in the gunpit to take out an American AT gun.

12. Panzergrenadiers charge the American left, take cover in the gully and quickly dispatch an M3 GMC with a panzerfaust.

13. Another devastating naval artillery strike causes a Tiger crew to abandon their tank.

14. The third and last GMC is brewed up by another panzerfaust.

15. An American AT gun brews up a halftrack but the grenadiers wisely jumped out when they were hit but before it exploded.

16. The exploding halftrack caused shock to adjacent grenadiers.

17. The view from the American right. Some panzergrenadiers have reached the base of the steep hill, safe from American fire from the trenches which are set back from the edge of the hill.

21. With one Tiger abandoned, another Tiger immobilized, one Pz4 destroyed, one Pz3 destroyed and one Pz4 abandoned the only mobile tank left was a Panzer3 with a 50mm gun...with limited HE power.
