This was an IABSM 6mm game we played in July, 2011 at Gigabites Cafe in Marietta, GA. The scenario was based on the advance of the SS Das Reich north of Luchki, at the beginning of the Kursk operation on July 6, 1943. Every July I try to do a Kursk game, and this year I thought I would use my German T34s.
Brian would be commanding the Panzers in his first IABSM game. He would start with six T34 from the 5 Coy, II Pz Btn of Das Reich. Tim would be coming in with a unit from the III Btn Pzgrd Rgt der Fuhrer: one platoon in Sdkfz 251 halftracks along with two sections of MMGs. Reinforcements would be five PzIIILs, two Pak 38s,and an FO for some 105s. Their job was to advance off the NE corner.
Rob had a big group from the 21st Guards Tank Brgd. Two company sized units (21 tanks) of T34s and ten T70s from the 3rd Btn, temporarily played by David. The Russian armor was to counterattack and drive off the Panzers. Meanwhile Edward (Tim's son) had the remnants of the 6th Guards Motor rifle Brgd. six squads of inf, two MMGs, two ATR teams and two 82mm mortars. They were preparing to make their last stand overlooking the road that ran along the bottom edge of the table.
The skies were suppose to be dark with Luftwaffe, so I had plenty of Ju87Ds and Gs on hand.
